Where to stay in Orlando for the theme parks
Orlando is spread out. Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando are separate resorts with their own hotels, buses and perks. A third group of hotels sits in the wider city and in Kissimmee. Pick your area by the park you will visit most, and then check the perks that come with the hotel.
This page names hotels only where the operators publish a clear benefit. It lists no nightly prices, because rates change by date. Ask for the total price including taxes and fees before you book.

Orlando theme park tickets and tours
Park tickets, transfers and day trips from Orlando, with live prices and availability, so you can plan around where you stay.

The Disney side and Lake Buena Vista
If you stay in a Disney resort hotel, registered guests get Early Entry. That is 30 minutes before the regular opening, including on the day you arrive and the day you leave. You still need a valid ticket, and not every ride opens early. Registered guests also get free standard theme park parking and free overnight self-parking at their hotel, and they can use Disney's free buses.
The Skyliner gondola links four hotels with EPCOT and Hollywood Studios: Art of Animation, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach and Riviera. This is a real transport advantage. It does not mean that every park is within walking distance, and the Skyliner does not run to Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom.
Hotels in Lake Buena Vista that are not Disney resorts do not automatically share these perks. Early Entry applies to Disney hotels and to the other hotels that Disney lists. Check the hotel by name before you count on it. Disney Springs offers free self-parking. It is not one of the theme parks. See the Walt Disney World page for the parks.
The Universal side and International Drive
Universal names three hotels for free Express Unlimited: Royal Pacific, Hard Rock and Portofino Bay. The benefit applies to Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. It does not apply to Epic Universe or Volcano Bay. Other hotels in Universal's wider collection should not be assumed to share it, so ask for the benefit by hotel name.
CityWalk, Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure are linked on foot. From CityWalk, a free shuttle runs to Epic Universe and to Volcano Bay. If you drive, parking is $35 a day for a standard car, and free after 6 pm with some exceptions. It is not free at Epic Universe.
Hotels along International Drive and elsewhere in the city carry none of these hotel perks unless the operator lists them. You then travel by car, ride app or bus. On the LYNX bus, some Link 311 trips call at the Epic Universal Transfer Center. Details for each option are on the getting around page, and more about the parks on the Universal Orlando page.

Kissimmee and the US-192 area
The third common base, outside both resorts.
No resort perks
Hotels and rental homes in Kissimmee and along US-192 are not part of Disney or Universal. Early Entry, free parking and hotel Express do not apply unless the operator lists the property.
Plan on a car or a ride app
Expect to drive or to use a ride service. Standard parking at the Disney and Universal theme parks is $35 a day, so add that to your budget.
Check the drive for your dates
Look up the route to your main park in a map app for the time of day you will travel. Drive times change with traffic.
Questions to ask before you book
These points change the real price and the daily routine more than the nightly rate does.
What is the full price?
Ask for the total with taxes, any resort fee and any parking fee at the hotel. Nightly rates alone do not show this.
Which perks apply?
Ask whether the hotel is on the list for Disney Early Entry, or one of the three Universal hotels with Express Unlimited. Ask by hotel name.
How do you reach the parks?
Ask whether the hotel has a shuttle, how often it runs and where it stops. Free Disney buses serve Disney resort hotels, and the Skyliner serves four of them.
Do you need a car?
If you rent one, count the daily park parking. If you do not, check the bus and ride options from the airport on the getting around page.
Plan the rest of your trip
Once you know your base, choose your parks and your dates.

Where to stay in Orlando: frequently asked questions
Where is the best area to stay for the Orlando theme parks?
It depends on your main park. Disney resort hotels give Early Entry and free park parking. Three Universal hotels give Express Unlimited at two parks. Other areas have no resort perks but may suit your budget or your route.
Do I get Early Entry at any Disney-area hotel?
No. Early Entry is for registered guests of Disney hotels and selected other hotels that Disney lists. It is 30 minutes before opening. Check your hotel by name.
Which Universal hotels include Express Unlimited?
Royal Pacific, Hard Rock and Portofino Bay. It is valid at Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, not at Epic Universe or Volcano Bay. Do not assume that other hotels in the same collection have it.
Which Disney hotels are on the Skyliner?
Art of Animation, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach and Riviera. The line also serves EPCOT's International Gateway and Hollywood Studios.
Is Disney Springs a theme park?
No. It is not one of the four Disney theme parks, and self-parking there is free.
Do I need a car if I stay in Kissimmee?
Plan on a car or a ride app. Public bus options exist in Orlando, but check the route and the time for your own dates before you rely on them.
