Two resorts, two ways to build a trip
Walt Disney World has four theme parks and two water parks, with free resort buses and the Skyliner between many of them. At Universal Orlando the older parks, Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, sit next to CityWalk and are connected on foot. Epic Universe, the third theme park, has its own entrance, parking lot and a free shuttle from CityWalk.
Neither resort is the cheaper or the better one in general. It depends on your dates, the ages in your group, the number of days and what you add on. This is an independent guide with no connection to Disney or Universal, so it only compares what the operators publish.

What you actually ride and see
Headline attractions as listed by the operators in 2026. Height and health rules differ for each ride, so check them before you go.
Disney: characters, stories and variety
Magic Kingdom lists TRON Lightcycle / Run, Tiana's Bayou Adventure, Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion. EPCOT has Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Frozen Ever After and Remy's Ratatouille Adventure. Hollywood Studios has Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and Toy Story Land. Animal Kingdom has Avatar Flight of Passage and Kilimanjaro Safaris. That is a lot of range for mixed-age groups.
Walt Disney World โUniversal: coasters and film worlds
Islands of Adventure lists Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, Jurassic World VelociCoaster and The Incredible Hulk Coaster. Harry Potter areas are spread over three parks: Diagon Alley in Universal Studios Florida, Hogsmeade in Islands of Adventure and Ministry of Magic in Epic Universe.
Universal Orlando โEpic Universe: five worlds
Epic Universe opened on 22 May 2025 with Celestial Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk and Dark Universe. Its Express list names Battle at the Ministry, Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge, Mine-Cart Madness, Monsters Unchained, Stardust Racers and Hiccup's Wing Gliders.

Tickets and queue passes
A ticket from one resort does not work at the other, and each has its own rules. At Disney a base ticket covers one theme park a day, and a Park Hopper ticket covers several. At Universal a 3-day base ticket covers one park a day, and Park-to-Park covers several. Universal's 2026 tickets for 3, 4 or 5 days can include Epic Universe with repeat visits. Volcano Bay is an add-on.
Queue passes work differently. Disney's Lightning Lane Multi Pass lets you book up to 3 rides in advance, Single Pass up to 2 rides a day, and Premier Pass gives one use of each available Lightning Lane in a park on one day without time windows. Universal Express works once per participating ride, Express Unlimited repeatedly, and both need park admission. Neither system applies at the other resort, and both can change, so read the current terms. The page on tickets has the 2026 starting prices.
Hotels, parking and getting around
Which hotel you pick matters more than how close it is.
Disney hotel perks
Early Entry opens eligible parks 30 minutes early for registered guests of Disney hotels and some other listed hotels. You still need a valid ticket, and not every ride opens early. Registered Disney hotel guests also park for free at the theme parks.
Universal hotel perks
Only the hotels Universal names get free Express Unlimited, which are Loews Royal Pacific, Hard Rock and Loews Portofino Bay. It works at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, not at Epic Universe or Volcano Bay. Do not assume every Universal hotel has it.
Parking
Standard parking is $35 per day at both. Disney's Preferred spots cost $50, $55 or $60, and Universal's Prime parking $50 to $60. Universal parking is free after 6:00 pm, except on Halloween Horror Nights evenings and 31 December, and this does not apply at Epic Universe.
Moving around
Disney runs free resort buses, and the Skyliner links EPCOT and Hollywood Studios with several hotels. There is no Skyliner to Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom. At Universal the older parks and CityWalk connect on foot, the Hogwarts Express runs between the two older parks, and a free shuttle from CityWalk goes to Epic Universe and Volcano Bay.
Getting around โWhich one fits your group
A way to think about it, not a ranking.
Young children
Disney's mix of character experiences, Toy Story Land and the Disney Jr. show at Hollywood Studios suits small children well. Height rules apply at both resorts, so check each ride before you plan a day around it.
Teenagers and coaster fans
Universal's lineup leans toward big rides and film worlds. Hagrid's, VelociCoaster, the Hulk and the Epic Universe rides are the draw. Disney also has thrill rides, for example Rock 'n' Roller Coaster and Expedition Everest.
Short trips
With 2 to 3 days, Universal's older parks and CityWalk are connected on foot, so you spend less time in transit. Disney has four theme parks to cover, so more days help. In both cases, pick the parks you really want before you pick the ticket.
Doing both
You can split a longer trip, but you buy two sets of tickets and hotels. Plan the days at each resort separately and keep a travel day between them.

No resort is cheaper in general. Compare the same dates, the same ages, the same parks, and add tax, parking and any queue pass. Then look at hotel perks. The cheapest ticket can end up costing more once you add the extras.

Disney vs Universal: frequently asked questions
Is Disney or Universal better for a first trip to Orlando?
Neither wins on every point. Disney offers a wide mix of character rides, shows and an animal park. Universal's headliners are big rides and film worlds. Decide by who is traveling, how many days you have and which rides matter most to you.
Which is cheaper, Disney or Universal?
There is no price winner in general. Disney prices by date and park, and Universal by date and ticket type. Compare the same dates, ages and parks, and add taxes, parking and queue passes before you decide.
Can I use one ticket at both Disney and Universal?
No. Each operator sells its own tickets. A ticket for one resort does not work at the other.
How many parks does each resort have?
Disney has four theme parks, plus two water parks. Universal has three theme parks, Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe, plus the water park Volcano Bay. Universal's own count lists all four as parks.
What do the queue passes cost?
Prices vary by park, ride and date at both resorts, so there is no fixed figure to quote for 2026. You see the current price in the operator's app or on its pass page before you buy.
Is this page written by Disney or Universal?
No. This is an independent guide with no link to either company or to Visit Orlando. Park and ride names are used only to describe what each resort offers.
